Thishiwe is head writer and creative producer of the 2018 mystical realism mini-series, Emoyeni. She wrote two of the series’ four episodes: the 48-minute standalone films Intombi YaNgale (The Girl from the Other Side) and Umnyama Ongenafu (Illusion).
Thishiwe also directed Intombi Yangale, which tells the fantastical story of an ethereal being who gets tragically tempted by carnality. Her 2016 offering, Sina Nomakotshana (Dance With the Maiden) is a sensuous 24-minute dance film about identity, sexuality, tradition and religion. It was produced as part of the NFVF Women In Film series and is currently available on Showmax.
The film won Best South African Short Film at the Durban Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. It also screened at the International Queer Migrant Festival Amsterdam 2017, the Brussels Massimadi Festival 2018 and the Mawjoudin Queer Film Festival 2018, amongst others. As writer, director and executive producer, Thishiwe is currently in development on her first feature film, Stellar Collision.
