Thishiwe plays Evelyn Mandela in the 2017 BET mini-series Madiba, directed by Kevin Hooks. She stars opposite Laurence Fishburne, Orlando Jones, David Harewood and Terry Phetho to name a few.

Her international acting portfolio also includes the slavery epic mini-series The Book of Negroes (2015), directed by Clement Virgo. The mini-series also stars Aunjanae Ellis, Cuba Gooding Jnr and Fana Mokoena, amongst others.

Thishiwe stars in the action romance Hard to Get for which she won Best Actress at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) 2014, Best Newcomer Actress at the Simon Sabela Awards 2015, and Best Actress at the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) 2015.

Thishiwe again received a SAFTA nomination the following year for Best Actress in a Feature Film, for the queer arthouse film, While You Weren’t Looking.

She received Best Supporting Actress at the Africa Movie Academy Awards 2016 for her role in the romantic drama Tell Me Sweet Something. She was also nominated at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for the same film, as well as the same director’s Man on Ground in 2011. The film won Best Ensemble Cast at the Monaco International Film Festival in the same year.

Her television career includes leading roles in hit South African television dramas such as The Imposter, It’s Complicated, INumber Number and Rhythm City.
