Thishiwe is currently at work on her feature directorial debut. No ordinary love story, Stellar Collision explores the complexity of toxic relationships and the apparent disconnect between tradition and modernity for black urbanites. The film uses elements of the fantasy genre to weave the love story together with spiritual sciences, and explore gems hidden in indigenous African astronomy.
Thishiwe’s most recent completed directorial work is the 48-minute urban fantasy, Intombi YaNgale (The Girl from the Other Side). The film forms part of Emoyeni, a series of standalone films created, head wrote and creative produced by Thishiwe.
In 2017, Thishiwe’s Sina Nomakotshana (Dance With the Maiden) won Best South African Short Film at the Durban Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. It also screened at the International Queer Migrant Festival Amsterdam 2017, the Brussels Massimadi Festival 2018 and the Mawjoudin Queer Film Festival 2018, amongst others.
Thishiwe’s first effort at independent cinema was the 17-minute Between The Lines which premiered at the Durban International Film Festival in 2011. There prior, she made a number of student films at AFDA, where she studied Directing.
