Thishiwe Ziqubu studied Scriptwriting and Directing at the Johannesburg film school, AFDA, and made three short films in her student career, the first of which awarded her Best First Year Film. Upon completing her film schooling, Thishiwe wrote and directed two novice short films, including Between the Lines, which premiered at the Durban International Film Festival 2011.

Thishiwe has directed esteemed actors such as Motlatsi Mafatshe of Isidingo fame and Gontse Ntshegang, Portia Joel and Coco Merckel in her short film, Subdued, which was part of the 48-hour Short Film Challenge 2011.

Thishiwe has recently written and directed  a 24-minute film Sina Nomakotshana about identity, sexuality and dance. She further endeavours to direct compelling cinematic narratives through her production company, Ngonyama Kapital.
